Cuba Suffers Another Nationwide Power Blackout

Jarida Report

Cuba suffered another nationwide power outage after the country’s electrical grid collapsed, according to local media reports.

The state-owned electricity utility confirmed that the national power grid had failed, triggering a blackout across the island. It did not immediately disclose the cause of the collapse.

The latest outage is the first nationwide blackout in August and follows three countrywide power failures in July, highlighting the continuing strain on Cuba’s ageing energy infrastructure.

Frequent rolling blackouts have become a part of daily life, with many Cubans using electricity whenever it becomes available to cook, wash, access the internet and cool their homes, amid uncertainty over how long power supplies will last.

The Cuban government has recently introduced measures aimed at easing the country’s energy shortages and supporting economic activity, but the electricity crisis continues to disrupt everyday life.
