The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has won the LA-2 Mirpur-2 (Chakswari) constituency in the 2026 Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections, according to preliminary unofficial results.
Complete unofficial results from all 149 polling stations showed PPP candidate Chaudhry Qasim Majeed securing 12,952 votes, defeating Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Azeem Bakhsh Chaudhry, who received 8,182 votes.
Vote counting continued across Mirpur Division following the first phase of polling, with unofficial results still being compiled from other constituencies.
According to the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission, there are 1,401,439 registered voters in Mirpur District. A total of 2,454 polling stations were established across Mirpur Division, including 597 in Mirpur, 1,107 in Kotli, and 608 in Bhimber.
Election Commission Secretary Raja Shakeel said polling in Mirpur remained largely peaceful, with only a small number of minor incidents reported and no major complaints.
Speaking to reporters, Raja Shakeel expressed confidence that voter turnout in Mirpur would exceed 50%, adding that results from polling stations were continuing to arrive and that the counting process would take some time to complete.
The results remain unofficial pending formal confirmation by the Election Commission.
