More than 120 law enforcement officers were injured during clashes with protesters opposing a high-speed rail project near Turin in northern Italy, the ANSA news agency reported on Sunday.
Hundreds of masked demonstrators reportedly stormed construction sites in the Susa Valley on Saturday as part of the No TAV movement, which opposes the construction of the high-speed rail link.
According to ANSA, protesters damaged several construction sites and clashed with police during the demonstration.
Citing official sources, the agency said the number of injured law enforcement personnel had risen to more than 120.
Authorities have so far identified 450 protesters, according to the report.
The No TAV movement said around 20,000 people took part in the protest.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni condemned the violence, saying attacks on security personnel and public property could not be justified.
“Those who throw Molotov cocktails, set fire to state vehicles, and assault law enforcement officers are not defending an idea; they are attacking the State,” Meloni wrote on X.
