Meta Platforms’ social media platforms Facebook and Instagram experienced service disruptions on Sunday, with thousands of users reporting problems accessing the apps and websites.
According to outage-tracking website Downdetector, 4,808 Facebook users in the United States had reported issues by 0746 GMT, with around 63% saying they were unable to access the website.
Meanwhile, 2,829 Instagram users in the US had reported problems with the app by 0818 GMT.
Downdetector data showed a sharp surge in reports of outages affecting both platforms at around 1pm Pakistan time.
Reuters also reported intermittent access to Facebook and Instagram in Singapore, suggesting the disruptions were not limited to the United States.
Meta did not immediately respond to Reuters’ request for comment on the reported outages.
