Security forces foiled a major terrorist plot in South Waziristan’s Wana on Saturday by destroying an explosive-laden vehicle intended for a suicide attack during an intelligence-based operation (IBO), according to state-run Pakistan Television (PTV), citing security sources.
According to the report, the operation prevented what officials described as a potential catastrophe in Wana and surrounding areas.
Security sources said one militant was killed and five others were injured during the operation.
“Security forces foiled a major terrorist plot in Wana through a timely intelligence-based operation, destroying an explosive-laden vehicle intended for a suicide attack,” PTV quoted security sources as saying.
The sources added that the successful operation averted significant civilian casualties and helped ensure the safety of local residents.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi paid tribute to the security forces, praising them for foiling what he described as a “major terrorism attempt” in Wana.
