An Iranian military spokesperson has reaffirmed Tehran’s determination to maintain control over the Strait of Hormuz, vowing to resist what he described as US interference in the strategic waterway.
According to Iran’s state news agency IRNA, Brigadier General Mohammad Akaminia, spokesperson for the Iranian army, said on Thursday that Iran would continue to oppose US actions in the region.
“We will undoubtedly resist until the end and will neutralise US interventions in the region,” Akaminia said.
In a post on X, IRNA said the United States had “miscalculated” by believing that strikes on certain Iranian bases would enable it to gain control of the Strait of Hormuz.
The agency also asserted that Iran is capable of maintaining its “dominance” over the strategic waterway regardless of coastlines or islands.
The latest remarks come amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington over control of the Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route for oil and natural gas.
