Bosnia Marks 31 Years Since Srebrenica Genocide as 10 More Victims Are Buried

Jarida Report

Thousands of mourners, survivors, foreign dignitaries and religious leaders gathered on Saturday at the Srebrenica-Potocari Memorial Center to mark the 31st anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide, as the remains of 10 newly identified victims were laid to rest.

The annual collective funeral is one of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s most solemn commemorations, with families continuing to bury loved ones whose remains are recovered from mass graves and identified decades after the 1995 massacre.

With this year’s burials, the number of genocide victims laid to rest at the Potocari Memorial Cemetery has risen to 6,782. Around 250 other victims have been buried in local cemeteries at the request of their families, while more than 1,000 people remain missing.

The youngest victim buried this year was 20-year-old Senad Jusic, while the oldest was 56-year-old Ramo Dautovic, underscoring the lasting human toll of Europe’s worst atrocity since the Second World War.
