A 13-year-old boy was killed and another left in a coma after a speeding car allegedly involved in a street race struck their motorcycle in Lahore’s Askari X area, sparking protests by residents demanding the arrest of those responsible.
According to reports, Subhan was waiting outside his home on a motorcycle with his friend Abubakar and another companion when two speeding cars raced down the street. One of the vehicles crashed into the motorcycle, throwing Subhan onto the footpath. He died at the scene after suffering a severe head injury, while another boy remains in a coma.
Police said the driver, identified by residents as Rana Hamza, fled the scene immediately after the crash. Neighbours claimed he had a history of reckless driving within the locality but alleged that no action had previously been taken against him.
Residents staged a late-night protest, accusing police of including inaccurate information in the initial FIR. Protesters alleged the report falsely identified the driver as an unknown female in an attempt to shield the suspect, claiming they possess video evidence showing Hamza was behind the wheel.
During the demonstration, residents demanded the suspect’s immediate arrest. “Until 12:00 PM tomorrow afternoon, we want the main culprit, Rana Hamza, presented before us,” one protester told the crowd, warning that further demonstrations would follow if no action was taken.
Police said they had raided the suspect’s residence and that his relatives had assured authorities he would be produced at the police station by midday. Officials added that if the suspect was not surrendered, law enforcement would locate and arrest him.
