Pakistan Urges US, Iran to Stay Committed to Islamabad Peace Deal

Jarida Report

Pakistan on Friday urged the United States and Iran to remain committed to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), warning that any disruption to the diplomatic process would make resolving the Iranian nuclear issue even more difficult.

Addressing the UN Security Council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, expressed concern over rising regional tensions and called for restraint and renewed dialogue.

“Pakistan expresses its deep concern at the escalation in tensions in the region, which is in no one’s interest,” Ahmad said. “The cycle of violence and instability must end for the good of regional and international peace, security, and prosperity.”

He stressed that “there is no alternative to continued engagement, dialogue, and diplomacy” to achieve lasting peace and reiterated Pakistan’s support for resolving the Iran nuclear issue through negotiations.

Describing last month’s Islamabad MoU as “a viable roadmap,” Ahmad said the agreement provided a framework for both sides to resolve their differences through dialogue.

“Any interruption in this diplomatic process would complicate the issues further,” he warned, urging both Washington and Tehran to honour their commitments under the agreement.

Ahmad added that Pakistan had worked with international partners to support de-escalation efforts and welcomed the progress made during expert-level talks held under the framework, expressing hope for continued constructive engagement between the two sides.
