Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir arrived in Tehran on Friday to attend the funeral prayers of Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, who was killed in airstrikes on the first day of the war.
Upon his arrival, he was received by Iranian Defence Minister Seyyed Majid Ibn Reza, the country’s interior minister, and senior civilian and military officials.
Earlier, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also departed Islamabad for a one-day visit to Iran to attend the funeral, according to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
Funeral ceremonies for Khamenei are set to begin in Tehran on July 4 and conclude with his burial in Mashhad on July 9, with additional commemorative events scheduled in Qom and Iraq during the mourning period.
