India, Japan Deepen Strategic Ties With New Cooperation Agreements

Jarida Report

India and Japan on Thursday agreed to strengthen cooperation in artificial intelligence, critical minerals, energy and defence, while also preparing a joint roadmap on economic security as the two countries deepen their strategic partnership.

The agreements were signed following talks between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, who is on a three-day visit to New Delhi.

Speaking after the meeting, Takaichi said closer cooperation had become increasingly important amid a challenging global environment, adding that the two countries would build on their complementary strengths to promote shared growth and prosperity.

Her visit follows Modi’s trip to Tokyo last year, during which Japan pledged to more than double its investment in India to over $61 billion over the next decade.

According to Indian government data, bilateral trade between the two countries reached $27.5 billion in the 2025-26 fiscal year, while Japanese investment in India totalled $3.2 billion between April and December 2025.
