The International Criminal Court (ICC) has approved a prosecution request to freeze money seized from former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte following his arrest and transfer to the court last year on charges of crimes against humanity, according to media reports.
Court filings cited by the Phil Star said ICC Trial Chamber III granted the request to freeze “any money that had been seized” from Duterte after his arrest.
Duterte’s legal team had argued that the request was unnecessary, saying it would have “no practical impact upon the existing state of affairs” because the funds were already in the custody of the ICC.
The public court documents did not disclose the amount of money that was seized from Duterte at the time of his arrest.
