Ship traffic through the Strait of Hormuz continued in both directions on Friday despite an attack on a container vessel that prompted some shipowners to reassess transit plans through the strategic waterway.
The attack on the Ever Lovely on Thursday, the first such incident since the signing of an interim US-Iran peace agreement led some shipowners and captains to delay or review plans to leave the Gulf.
According to reports, at least one Asia-based shipping company instructed its vessels in the Gulf to remain in place while senior management evaluated the security situation and transit options.
However, ship-tracking data indicated that the incident had not disrupted the gradual recovery in maritime traffic through the strait.
On Friday, two fully loaded oil tankers were seen departing the Gulf, while four empty very large crude carriers (VLCCs) were sailing into the Gulf along the Omani coast. The southern shipping route is managed by Oman and coordinated by the United States.
