Nicolas Sarkozy becomes the first French ex-president to go to jail as he begins a five-year sentence for conspiring to fund his election campaign with money from the late Libyan dictator, Muhammad Gaddafi. No French ex-leader has been jailed since World War Two Nazi collaborationist Philippe Pétain was jailed for treason in 1945. Sarkozy was President from 2007-2012 and he has appealed against his jail term at La Santé prison.
