Justice Mansoor Ali Shah Sworn in as Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan
On April 21, 2025, Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, the senior puisne judge of the Supreme Court, took the oath of office as the Acting Chief Justice of Pakistan. The oath was administered by Justice Munib Akhtar in a simple and dignified ceremony held at the Supreme Court in Islamabad. Justice Shah assumes this role during the absence of Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, who is leading a delegation to the 20th Conference of Chief Justices of the Supreme Courts of Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) member states in Hangzhou, China, from April 22 to 26.
The ceremony was attended by Supreme Court judges, the Attorney General for Pakistan, senior lawyers, and officers of the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan. Justice Shah will serve as the Acting Chief Justice during Justice Afridi’s official visit abroad.
