NEPRA Approves Rs1.71 Per Unit Reduction in Electricity Prices

Jarida Report

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a reduction of Rs1.71 per unit in electricity tariffs nationwide, including Karachi, for the period of April to June 2025. This decision follows the federal government’s request, aiming to pass on the benefits of increased petroleum levies to consumers. However, lifeline consumers will not benefit from this reduction.

Previously, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced a significant reduction in electricity tariffs, with domestic users receiving cuts of up to Rs7.41 per unit and industrial users up to Rs7.69 per unit. These measures are part of the government’s efforts to alleviate the financial burden on consumers amid rising energy costs.

The NEPRA’s approval of the Rs1.71 per unit reduction is expected to provide financial relief of approximately Rs58 billion to consumers over the three-month period. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to easing the economic challenges faced by consumers due to fluctuating energy prices.
