Karachi: A woman and her three young children have died in an incident at a house in Karachi’s Surjani Town, police said on Monday.
The woman was identified as Mahwish, while her children were five-year-old Hasnain, six-year-old Kashmirah and an 18-month-old girl.
According to police, the 18-month-old was initially found alive and taken to hospital in critical condition but later succumbed to her injuries.
Police have begun questioning Mahwish’s husband as part of their investigation. He told investigators that he had left the house to drop his employer somewhere and found the door unanswered when he returned.
The husband said he repeatedly called out to his wife but received no response.
SSP West Tariq Elahi Mastooi visited the scene following the discovery of the victims.
Sindh Home Minister Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar took notice of the deaths and sought an immediate and detailed report from SSP West.
Lanjar directed police to investigate the case from all possible angles, collect evidence from the scene and establish the circumstances and cause of the deaths.
He also ordered immediate action against any individuals if evidence emerges linking them to the incident.
The home minister directed officials to keep him informed of progress in the investigation.
