’Visionary’ Writer László Krasznahorkai Wins 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature

Jarida Report

Hungarian novelist László Krasznahorkai has been awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Literature, recognized for his “visionary prose and relentless exploration of human despair and transcendence.” Often described as the “writer of apocalypse,” Krasznahorkai is best known for works like Satantango and The Melancholy of Resistance, which inspired acclaimed filmmaker Béla Tarr. The Nobel committee praised his long, hypnotic sentences and darkly poetic style that probes the limits of civilization and faith.

The award celebrates decades of literary experimentation that have influenced writers and readers across Europe and beyond. Krasznahorkai called the honor “a recognition of language’s endless struggle to reach truth.”
