US envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner will travel to Doha to meet Qatari mediators for discussions on US-Iran negotiations, Qatar’s foreign ministry spokesperson said on Tuesday.
The spokesperson clarified that no high-level meeting between Washington and Tehran is scheduled during the visit.
He also said that the $6 billion in frozen Iranian funds has not been transferred to Iran, noting that the money remains subject to the 2023 agreement and is designated exclusively for the purchase of humanitarian goods.
The spokesperson added that Qatar is coordinating with Oman on issues related to the Strait of Hormuz and the safe passage of commercial vessels. He said a direct de-escalation communication channel has been used in recent days to help contain tensions in the strategic waterway.
