Two policemen providing security to an anti-polio vaccination team were shot dead in Balochistan’s Naushki district on Tuesday, according to Pakistan’s Interior Ministry.
The vaccinators escaped unharmed in the attack, which occurred during an ongoing nationwide campaign to immunise millions of children under the age of five against polio.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Militants affiliated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) have previously carried out attacks targeting polio vaccination workers and security personnel assigned to protect immunisation teams in different parts of the country.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi condemned the killings and directed law enforcement agencies to use “all available resources” to identify and bring those responsible to justice.
Pakistan and Afghanistan remain the two countries where polio is endemic.
Pakistan has reported four confirmed polio cases so far this year, according to the information provided in the report.
