Two pilots were martyred on Monday when a Super Mushshak crashed during a routine training mission near Mardan, according to the military’s media wing.
The Inter-Services Public Relations identified the deceased as Flight Lieutenant Muhammad Qasim Abdullah of the Pakistan Air Force, who was serving as an instructor pilot, and Lieutenant Taha Abbasi of the Pakistan Navy, who was undergoing training.
ISPR said a board of inquiry has been constituted by Air Headquarters to determine the cause of the accident.
Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, the services chiefs and personnel of the armed forces expressed deep sorrow over the loss and extended condolences to the families of the martyrs.
President Asif Ali Zardari also expressed grief over the crash, paying tribute to the pilots and stating that the nation would always remember the sacrifices made in defence of the country.
