Two pilots were killed when a training aircraft crashed in Kanpur in India’s northern Uttar Pradesh state on Thursday, officials said.
The four-seat, twin-engine aircraft had taken off from a training centre before crashing during a training flight, senior police official Raghubir Lal told reporters.
India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation said the aircraft was operating within the local flying area of Kanpur Civil Airport when the accident occurred on Thursday afternoon.
“There were two persons on board, a trainee pilot and an instructor. Both sustained fatal injuries in the accident,” the ministry said in a statement.
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau has been notified and will conduct a detailed investigation in accordance with applicable regulations.
Authorities have not yet established what caused the aircraft to crash.
“The circumstances and cause of the accident will be determined through the investigation,” the ministry said.
