Trump Says US-Iran Peace Deal Could Be Reached This Weekend

Jarida Report

US President Donald Trump said on Thursday that the United States and Iran could sign a peace agreement as early as this weekend that would reopen the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping, though Tehran said it had not yet made a final decision on the proposed deal.

If reached, the agreement would represent the most significant diplomatic breakthrough since the conflict began three months ago, a war that has claimed thousands of lives and driven up global energy prices.

Iranian media quoted Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei as saying that much of the draft agreement had been finalised, but Iran would not compromise on its key principles.

“We have not reached a final conclusion on this matter,” he said. “This is a very important issue that is currently being reviewed by the relevant decision-making bodies.”

Meanwhile, Trump told reporters at the White House: “We just made a great settlement of the war with Iran.”
