US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran “is over,” following a new wave of military escalation in the Gulf that threatened the fragile ceasefire between the two countries.
Speaking at the opening of the NATO summit in Türkiye, Trump accused Iran of violating the ceasefire by targeting commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
“I think it’s over,” Trump said when asked about the agreement with Iran. “I don’t want to continue dealing with them. They’re sick people.”
Trump also accused Tehran of acting in bad faith, saying Iran was “playing dirty” by attacking commercial shipping despite ongoing diplomatic efforts.
His remarks came after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it had launched strikes on US military targets in Bahrain and Kuwait in response to recent American attacks on Iran, further raising tensions across the region.
