US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday that Washington was neither holding nor planning talks with Iran, while maintaining that the Strait of Hormuz remained open under a US naval blockade.
“There are no talks or conversations going on, or scheduled, with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
His statement appeared to rule out any immediate diplomatic engagement between Washington and Tehran amid continuing tensions over the conflict and control of the strategically important waterway.
Trump also said the US naval blockade remained fully in effect, while asserting that maritime traffic through the Strait of Hormuz was continuing.
“The Naval Blockade remains in full force and effect. The Hormuz Strait is open and operating,” he said.
The US president further claimed that all water mines in the strait had either been removed or detonated.
Trump’s latest comments come amid heightened uncertainty over prospects for negotiations between the two countries, with both sides issuing increasingly tough statements in recent days.
