A judicial magistrate on Wednesday sent a 17-year-old boy to jail on a 14-day judicial remand in a case involving allegations that he attempted to poison his father after seeking information from artificial intelligence.
The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) produced the teenager before Judicial Magistrate Naeem Wattoo following the completion of his three-day physical remand.
During the hearing, the magistrate asked whether the boy’s father had any objection regarding the case. The investigating officer said the father had no objection and told investigators that his son, the family’s only boy and a second-year student in Bahawalpur, regularly conducted different kinds of research.
As investigators no longer required the teenager in physical custody, the court ordered that he be sent to jail for 14 days on judicial remand and directed the investigating officer to submit a charge-sheet within the prescribed period.
The NCCIA arrested the teenager on September 23, alleging that he had developed strained relations with his father and planned to kill him following a disagreement.
According to the agency, investigators also found that the teenager had developed an interest in chemistry after watching the American crime drama Breaking Bad and had reportedly established a small laboratory at home to conduct chemical experiments.
Authorities allege that the teenager sought information from artificial intelligence in connection with the attempted poisoning.
The case remains under investigation, and the allegations against the 17-year-old have not yet been proven in court.
