Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani arrived in Libya’s capital on Sunday for talks with Libyan officials and the reopening of the Syrian Embassy in Tripoli.
Shaibani was received on arrival by Taher al-Baour, acting foreign minister of Libya’s Tripoli-based government, according to Syria’s SANA news agency.
The visit is expected to include meetings with Libyan officials alongside the formal resumption of operations at the Syrian diplomatic mission in the capital.
The reopening marks a step towards restoring Syria’s diplomatic presence in Tripoli after a prolonged interruption.
Officials had not immediately released further details about Shaibani’s programme, the agenda for his talks or arrangements surrounding the embassy’s reopening.
