KARACHI: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has directed the Information Department to strengthen monitoring of fake news and misleading information and develop an effective strategy to counter its spread.
The directives were issued during a meeting of the Sindh Information Department chaired by Memon. Information Secretary Kashif Gulzar Sheikh, Director General Information Moez Pirzada and other senior officials attended the meeting.
Memon instructed the Information Secretary and departmental directors to closely monitor misinformation and formulate a coordinated media strategy to respond to false or misleading content.
He said attempts to damage the reputation of individuals or institutions through false information would not be tolerated.
The senior minister also directed the Information Department to seek assistance from the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to help curb the spread of fake news and misleading information.
He called for daily monitoring of mainstream and social media platforms using modern technology and directed officials to establish an effective mechanism for identifying, verifying and responding to misinformation promptly.
Memon further stressed the need to strengthen coordination between the Sindh Information Department and the NCCIA to address the spread of fake news and misinformation.
