RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense has issued all-clear notices for Mecca, Taif and the northwestern region of Tabuk after earlier emergency warnings were issued for five areas.
The warnings had also covered Jeddah and Yanbu, with authorities alerting residents to what was described as a “potential danger”.
In separate notices, the Civil Defense said the danger had passed in Mecca, Taif and Tabuk and urged residents to continue following official instructions.
Authorities also advised people to avoid gathering at affected locations and refrain from filming.
The alerts were issued through Saudi Arabia’s national early warning platform, but officials did not specify the nature of the potential threat. No casualties or damage were reported in the notices.
The alerts come amid a series of missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia attributed to Yemen’s Houthi movement in recent days.
On July 20, the Houthis announced what they called a “maritime blockade” targeting Saudi Arabia and later claimed attacks involving missiles and drones against Saudi-linked vessels and sites.
Saudi Arabia has led a coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognised government since 2015 in its conflict with the Houthis, who have controlled the capital Sanaa and several parts of Yemen since 2014.
