Punjab Government Announces Diwali Celebrations Across Province

Jarida Report

The Punjab government has announced plans to organise Diwali celebrations across the province under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, reaffirming its commitment to religious harmony and cultural inclusion.

Punjab Minister for Minority Affairs Ramesh Singh Arora announced the initiative while extending Diwali greetings to Hindu communities in Pakistan and around the world.

Speaking in Lahore, Arora said the provincial government would celebrate the Hindu festival with enthusiasm, bringing communities together to share in the festivities.

He announced that a special Diwali festival would be held in Rahim Yar Khan on November 4, followed by another major celebration in Lahore on November 6.

The events are expected to feature colourful festivities highlighting the religious and cultural significance of Diwali.

According to the provincial government, the celebrations reflect its commitment to promoting religious tolerance, protecting minority communities and recognising Pakistan’s cultural diversity.

The initiative also aims to encourage greater participation in religious and cultural occasions celebrated by minority communities across Punjab.

Diwali, also known as Deepavali or the Festival of Lights, is one of the most important festivals in Hinduism and is celebrated by millions of people worldwide.

Traditionally marked by the lighting of lamps, family gatherings, prayers and festivities, Diwali symbolises the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.

The Punjab government’s planned celebrations will provide an opportunity for Hindu communities to observe the festival publicly while encouraging interfaith understanding and social inclusion.
