PESHAWAR: A group of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf workers has formed a volunteer unit to assist party supporters during a planned September 27 long march seeking the release of PTI founder Imran Khan.
The formation of the group, named “Pasdaran-e-Azm Imran Khan Pakistan,” was announced by PTI leader Engineer Daniyal Khan Afridi and other party workers from Nowshera at a press conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Friday.
Afridi described the organisation as a voluntary unit comprising ideological PTI workers and said its members would provide assistance and protection to participants during the march.
He stressed that volunteers would operate within the law and would seek to prevent participants from engaging in unlawful or unconstitutional activity. The unit would also provide first aid to anyone injured during possible clashes or tear-gas shelling, he said.
According to Afridi, volunteers would help participants overcome obstacles encountered along the march route but would be instructed to remain within constitutional and legal limits.
He appealed to the PTI leadership to provide the unit with first-aid kits, helmets, protective masks, shoes and uniforms. He also called on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi to support the volunteers and help arrange the necessary protective and medical equipment.
The organisers are seeking to expand the unit ahead of the march by recruiting additional volunteers from other districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The September 27 mobilisation is being organised by PTI as part of its campaign for the release of Imran Khan, who remains imprisoned amid a series of legal cases.
Following the press conference, Daniyal Khan Afridi administered an oath to members of the newly formed volunteer unit.
