The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on Tuesday accused polling staff in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) of abandoning a polling station and being found with official polling bags and ballot papers at the residence of a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supporter, urging the AJK Election Commission to take immediate action.
Tuesday’s polling was held in LA-27 Muzaffarabad-I (Kotla) and at 51 of 115 polling stations in LA-28 Muzaffarabad-II (Lachhrat) after voting was postponed on August 2 due to heavy rain and landslides.
The second phase of the AJK Legislative Assembly elections covered eight constituencies in Muzaffarabad Division and 12 refugee constituencies across Pakistan.
According to results announced so far, the PML-N has emerged as the largest party with 23 seats, while the PPP has secured nine seats.
In a complaint addressed to the Chief Election Commissioner of AJK and shared on the party’s X account, the PPP alleged the incident occurred at Polling Station No. 3 in Union Council Bheri, constituency LA-27 Muzaffarabad-I (Kotla).
The complaint, signed by PPP Election Cell In-charge Abdul Shakoor, described the alleged incident as involving “grave illegalities, pre-planned rigging and severe electoral malpractice.”
The PPP has called on the Election Commission to investigate the allegations and take immediate action. The PML-N has previously rejected allegations of electoral irregularities.
