PML-N Wins Majority of AJK Assembly Special Seats

The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) on Monday announced the successful candidates for seven special seats in the AJK Legislative Assembly, with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) securing the largest share.

According to the Election Commission secretary, the PML-N won three seats reserved for women, while the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) secured two.

PML-N candidates Maryam Zaman, Maryam Idrees and Sehrish Qamar were elected to the women’s seats after receiving seven votes each.

The PPP’s Farzana Yaqoob was also elected with seven votes. A tie emerged between Riffat Abid and Zobia Khursheed for another women’s seat, with Zobia Khursheed eventually declared the winner following a draw.

On the other reserved categories, PML-N’s Barrister Iftikhar Gillani won the technocrat seat after securing 26 votes.

Syed Mazhar Shah was elected to the seat reserved for the Ulema and Mashaikh Council, also receiving 26 votes.

The PML-N had previously secured the overseas-reserved seat uncontested, further strengthening its representation in the AJK Legislative Assembly.
