Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening democratic institutions, upholding the supremacy of the Constitution, promoting the parliamentary system, ensuring the rule of law, and encouraging meaningful public participation in governance.
In his message on World Parliament Day, the prime minister said the Constitution of Pakistan guarantees a democratic system founded on the will of the people, with elected representatives exercising authority as a sacred trust for public service and welfare.
He described Parliament as the country’s constitutional forum for legislation and debate on national issues, adding that Pakistan’s parliamentary democracy has made significant progress in promoting inclusive participation and effective representation.
Shehbaz said the voices of women, minorities, smaller provinces and other underrepresented groups have been increasingly represented in Parliament. He added that reserved seats for women and non-Muslims in the National Assembly and Senate, along with the Senate’s role in ensuring equal representation of federating units, reflect Pakistan’s constitutional commitment to an inclusive democratic system.
