Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton’s past comments about regretting his controversial approach to covering celebrities have resurfaced as he continues to receive medical care following an apparent suicide attempt.
In an interview recorded for The Sean Hannity Show, Hilton reflected on his years as one of the internet’s most provocative celebrity bloggers and acknowledged that his reporting had often caused harm to the people he covered.
Hilton said a conversation with Jennifer Aniston in a Los Angeles parking garage became a turning point. According to Hilton, Aniston reminded him that celebrities were “real people,” prompting him to reconsider an approach he had previously regarded primarily as entertainment.
He said he subsequently began what he described as an “apology tour,” privately contacting several celebrities he had targeted over the years, including Britney Spears and Khloé Kardashian. Hilton said Kardashian responded positively to his apology.
The blogger also addressed his past treatment of actor Neil Patrick Harris, acknowledging that in 2006 he had actively sought information about Harris’s private relationships before the actor publicly came out as gay.
Hilton later apologised to Harris, who subsequently invited him to contribute to his 2014 memoir, Choose Your Own Autobiography.
Reflecting on his earlier career, Hilton said he eventually abandoned what he described as a “cruel” style of celebrity coverage after concluding that he could remain entertaining without resorting to personal attacks. He acknowledged that his previous conduct continued to weigh heavily on him.
The comments have drawn renewed attention following a recent incident at Hilton’s South Florida home, where authorities responded after receiving emergency calls concerning a livestream showing apparent self-harm.
Hilton was subsequently taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, where he is reportedly continuing to recover.
