Pakistan has heightened flood preparedness after India released water from the Salal Dam for the 11th consecutive time, raising concerns over increased river flows as monsoon rains continue across the region.
According to officials, around 90,000 cusecs of water are expected to enter Pakistan, prompting authorities to issue flood alerts for potentially vulnerable areas. Pakistani officials described the repeated releases as part of India’s “water aggression.”
Despite the latest inflow, the Punjab Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said water levels in most of the country’s major rivers remain within normal limits.
The PDMA reported normal flows in the Jhelum, Chenab, Ravi, Sutlej and Kabul rivers, as well as in the Dera Ghazi Khan hill torrents.
However, medium-level flooding continues at Sukkur Barrage on the Indus River, while low-level flood conditions persist at Kalabagh, Chashma and Guddu barrages.
Authorities said they are closely monitoring the situation and have directed relevant departments to remain on alert as the monsoon season continues.
