Pakistan and Canada held high-level talks in Islamabad on Monday as Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand paid the first bilateral visit to Pakistan by a Canadian foreign minister in nearly two decades.
According to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA), Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar welcomed Anand at the Foreign Ministry, where the two leaders discussed the “full spectrum of Pakistan-Canada bilateral relations” as well as regional and international issues of mutual interest.
MoFA described Anand’s visit as an “important milestone in Pakistan-Canada relations,” noting that it was her first visit to Pakistan since assuming office and the first bilateral visit by a Canadian foreign minister in almost 20 years.
The ministry said the visit reflected “the resolve of both sides to further strengthen bilateral engagement” and expand cooperation in a range of sectors.
According to the statement, the talks also provided an opportunity for both countries to exchange views on key regional and international developments and explore ways to deepen bilateral cooperation.
