Pakistani boxer Qudratullah Khan has been reported missing in Glasgow after competing at the Commonwealth Games, officials confirmed.
The Quetta-born boxer, who represents a departmental team, did not rejoin the national squad, which was scheduled to return to Pakistan on Sunday following the conclusion of the Games.
“Yes, he has gone missing,” a source in the Pakistan Boxing Federation (PBF) told The Express Tribune.
“It is unfortunate, but his department will now handle the matter. We selected him purely on merit, and he is a capable boxer,” the source added.
According to team officials, Khan was missing when the squad prepared to leave, although his luggage and personal belongings were found in his hotel room.
The incident has presented an unexpected challenge for the team’s management.
It is not the first time a Pakistani athlete has disappeared during an overseas sporting event. At the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, boxers Suleman Baloch and Nazirullah Khan also went missing after the competition. Earlier that year, swimmer Faizan Akbar disappeared in Hungary ahead of the FINA World Championships.
In March 2024, Asian bronze medallist Zohaib Rasheed left his hotel in Italy before an Olympic qualifying event for the Paris Games, later citing financial difficulties as the reason for his decision.
The latest incident is expected to renew concerns among Pakistan’s sports authorities over athletes disappearing during international tours.
