Over 200 Inmates Escape from Karachi’s Malir Jail Amid Earthquake Chaos; 78 Recaptured, One Killed

On the night of June 2, 2025, a series of low-intensity earthquakes in Karachi prompted the evacuation of inmates at Malir District Jail. During this process, 213 prisoners escaped by exploiting the ensuing chaos. Sindh Inspector General of Police Ghulam Nabi Memon reported that 78 of the escapees have been recaptured, while efforts continue to apprehend the remaining fugitives.
