A mass funeral prayer was held in Tehran on Sunday for Iran’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei at the Imam Khomeini Mosalla Mosque, drawing hundreds of thousands of mourners.
The prayer was led by Ayatollah Jafar Sobhani and attended by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, senior military and political officials, religious leaders, and members of the public carrying Iranian flags.
Khamenei was killed in US-Israeli strikes on Iran that began on Feb. 28, followed by Iranian retaliatory attacks.
Official funeral ceremonies began on Friday, with foreign dignitaries and delegations from across the region and beyond paying tribute to the late leader.
According to the official schedule, the main funeral procession will take place in Tehran on Monday before the ceremonies move to Qom on July 7. Further commemorations are planned in Baghdad, Najaf and Karbala on July 8, with the final funeral and burial ceremony scheduled for July 9 at the Imam Ali Reza Shrine in Mashhad.
