Keir Starmer announced his resignation as both UK prime minister and leader of the Labour Party on Monday, saying every decision he made in office had been guided by “putting the country I love first.”
Speaking outside 10 Downing Street, Starmer thanked his wife, Vic, describing her as “a rock,” and said he now wanted to be “the best dad I can to my beautiful children, who are my pride and joy.”
Meanwhile, Andy Burnham, who is widely seen as a potential successor, is due in Westminster on Monday to be sworn in as the new MP for Makerfield after winning last week’s by-election.
