The Karachi Task Force, in collaboration with a federal law enforcement agency, has busted a drug smuggling network and recovered more than 50 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as “ice,” during a raid in the Korangi Industrial Area, police said.
According to police, the operation resulted in the arrest of eight suspects and the recovery of over 50kg of ice. Investigators revealed that the drugs, along with ketamine, were being concealed and smuggled in separate consignments.
Among those arrested were alleged drug network mastermind Nazir Soomro and godown manager Shahid Mastoi. Another suspect, Shaikh Khalid, allegedly provided a location to store the narcotics and used a bank account to facilitate financial transactions.
Two Afghan nationals, Noor Khan and Gran Khan, were also arrested for allegedly arranging the supply of drugs from Balochistan.
Meanwhile, Nasir Ali was arrested for allegedly facilitating the movement of the ice, DIG Irfan Ali Baloch said.
Police constables Kamran and Abdullah were also taken into custody for allegedly providing a sample of 10kg of ice.
DIG Irfan Baloch said two pistols were also recovered from the arrested suspects.
Police said two other alleged members of the network, Shahji and Waqar Hussain, who were reportedly involved in drug supply and hawala transactions, remain at large.
