Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said on Monday that some of the country’s missiles can now change trajectory while in flight, enabling them to evade enemy air-defence systems.
IRGC spokesman Hossein Mohabi, speaking at an event in the northern city of Qazvin, said Iranian missile technology had advanced beyond weapons travelling along predetermined paths between launch and target points.
He said some missiles now possess guidance and course-correction capabilities, allowing them to alter their flight paths to bypass air-defence systems, according to Iran’s official IRNA news agency.
Mohabi said such capabilities were deployed during Iran’s recent conflict with the United States, including strikes aimed at elements of what he described as the enemy’s “power network.”
He added that Iran’s approach to what he termed “technological warfare” extended beyond physically damaging military facilities and equipment to disrupting adversaries’ command, decision-making and defence networks.
Iran and the United States have been engaged in a military confrontation since the US and Israel launched attacks against Iran in February, sharply escalating tensions across the region.
Tehran subsequently retaliated with strikes against US military assets and facilities in several countries across the region.
