Five people were killed and seven others injured on Friday after a dumper truck collided with a passenger coach on the Mithi-Badin Road in Tharparkar, according to police and hospital officials.
Initial reports said the speeding dumper was travelling on the wrong side of the road when it struck the coach. Five passengers died at the scene.
The seven injured passengers were taken to Civil Hospital Mithi, where doctors assessed their condition.
The hospital’s medical superintendent said four of the injured were in critical condition and had been referred to another medical facility for further treatment. The remaining three continue to receive treatment at Civil Hospital Mithi.
The crash adds to a series of deadly road accidents reported in Pakistan in recent weeks.
On September 6, seven wedding guests were killed and more than 60 people injured in another major collision near Khanpur. A tractor trolley carrying members of a wedding party was travelling from Sardar Garh towards Zahir Pir when it collided head-on with a trailer on the National Highway.
Four people died at the scene of that accident, while rescue workers and local authorities transported dozens of injured passengers to hospital. The death toll subsequently rose to seven.
