Police have registered a case following an incident at Sarhad University’s Rawat campus, where a serving Pakistan Army brigadier allegedly opened fire during a confrontation with protesting students.
According to accounts from students, tensions began during a protest against the university administration over several issues. The situation reportedly escalated following an argument involving the university’s HR management and a female department head or manager, who is said to be the wife of the army officer.
Students alleged that the officer subsequently arrived at the campus and confronted the protesters. The exchange became increasingly heated and eventually turned physical as students gathered around him.
During the confrontation, the brigadier allegedly opened fire, causing panic among students and university staff. Police personnel arrived at the campus as the situation intensified.
Students later staged a sit-in demanding legal action over the incident. Police subsequently registered an FIR against the officer.
According to security sources cited in the report, the individual involved is a serving Pakistan Army officer with the rank of brigadier, and an inquiry into the incident has also been initiated.
Students have called for the matter to be investigated according to law and demanded that those responsible for any wrongdoing be held accountable.
