KARACHI: Police briefly detained several relatives and supporters of 10 Pakistani sailors who have been held by Somali pirates for nearly 140 days, after their families staged an overnight protest on Shahrah-e-Faisal.
The sailors were serving aboard the Palau-flagged tanker MT Honour 25, which was hijacked off Somalia’s Puntland coast on April 21. Since then, relatives say they have repeatedly appealed to the authorities for stronger diplomatic intervention and clearer information about efforts to secure the crew’s release.
The families said the prolonged uncertainty had caused severe distress and urged the government to intensify contact with relevant regional authorities and international agencies involved in maritime security.
