Compensation Cheques Distributed To Victims Of Gul Plaza Fire By Sindh Chief Minister Murad Shah

Jarida Report

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah distributed compensation cheques to victims of the Gul Plaza incident at a ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s House in Karachi on Friday, with Rs10 million given in compensation for every deceased. Speaking on the occasion, CM Shah said that payments had already been made to 63 families.

Describing the Gul Plaza incident as “extremely tragic”, CM Shah noted that lives were lost and people’s lifetime savings were destroyed. “There is no price for a human life,” he said.

In mid-January, a fire broke out at Gul Plaza in Karachi, claiming 79 lives and leaving dozens missing. According to the Sindh government’s investigation report, the inferno was triggered by a matchstick at a shop selling artificial flowers.
