A massive blast inside a Pakistani Taliban (TTP) compound in the Tirah Valley area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa killed at least 24 people on Monday. Witnesses report that the explosion took place in an area where explosives and bomb-making materials were kept in proximity to civilian houses. Several women and children were among the dead, generating renewed anger about the militant group’s utilization of populated areas. The cause has not been verified by security officials, but there is an initial investigation pointing to accidental detonation. The incident was denounced by human rights organisations, which demanded accountability and the safety of the civilians in the areas of conflict. At a scrap shop in a corner of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Mardan district, police has reported an explosion of a hand grenade which ended up killing three people, on Tuesday. 
 District Police Officer (DPO) Zahoor Babar Afridi reported that police has gathered evidence from the site of the explosion and they were further investigating the matter. According to Mardan Rescue 1122, the injured have been identified as 40-year-old Abbas, 17-year-old Saeed and 24-year-old Amrad. The injured were immediately given first aid and rushed to Mardan Medical Complex, Rescue 1122 said.

The prominent British-Egyptian activist Alaa Abdel Fattah has been granted freedom this Tuesday. President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi issued a pardon that led to the activist being released from prison in Cairo. Abdel Fattah, 43, being a leading figure in Egypt’s 2011 uprising and an outspoken advocate for criticising the country’s authorities had been jailed for almost the entire past decade.
