The Azad Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to begin a phased restoration of internet services across eight districts and has sought formal approval from the federal Ministry of Interior to implement the plan.
According to a notification issued by the AJK Home Department, full connectivity will return in some areas, while services elsewhere will initially be limited to educational institutions and banks.
In Muzaffarabad Division, DSL and 3G/4G mobile internet services are to be restored. Haveli Kahuta will similarly regain DSL and 3G/4G connectivity.
DSL services will be restored throughout Mirpur and Bhimber districts. In Bagh and Dhirkot, however, DSL access will initially be available on a limited basis to educational institutions and banks.
Restrictions will remain in several locations. DSL connectivity will continue to be unavailable in Sehensa, Sarsawa, Baloch and Tatta Pani, while internet services will remain suspended for the time being in Rawalakot and Sudhanoti.
The proposed measures represent a gradual easing of communications restrictions that have remained in place in parts of AJK for nearly three months.
Authorities suspended mobile phone and internet services across the territory in June 2026 ahead of a strike called by the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC).
The communications blackout began late on June 5 following a breakdown in negotiations between the government and the JAAC. The restrictions were introduced as part of security and administrative measures surrounding the planned protest.
The latest plan would restore connectivity to substantial parts of AJK while retaining restrictions in selected areas, subject to approval from the federal Interior Ministry.
