China Strikes Back: Tariffs and Export Curbs in Response to U.S. Trade Measures

On April 4, 2025, China announced countermeasures in response to U.S. tariffs imposed by President Donald Trump. These measures include a 34% tariff on all U.S. goods, effective April 10, and export restrictions on certain rare earth elements. Additionally, China suspended imports of sorghum from C&D (USA) Inc. and poultry products from three U.S. firms. The Chinese government criticized the U.S. actions as unilateral and in violation of international trade rules.
